Iik Suryani

Art activist Iik Suryani, S.Sn. was born on October 24th, 1983 in Surakarta. She is a professional dancer, creator and arts scholar. She studied various dances from many institutions such as Solo Dance Studio, Studio Taksu, Padepokan Lemah Putih, and Mugi Dance. She also expands her knowledge by learning from prominent Indonesian art masters in Solo, such as Eko Supriyanto, Djarot B. Darsono, Suprapto Suryodarmo, S. Permadi, and Mugiyono Kasido. She took part in Ariah, a colossal dance with multimedia and lighting play, produced by Atillah and performed as part of Jakarta City Anniversary in Monas in 2013. Not satisfied with being a dancer, she also delved into the works of choreography. She began producing dances since 2004, counting up to twenty dances to date. Some of her noteworthy choreographies are: Kiri Jalan Terus (Left Go Forward), featuring Havid Ponk Z in 2011, Tak Lelo Ledhung, Kebo Kinul, Mbeksa in 2012, Apa Kabar Tubuh (How Are You, Body?) in 2013. She has performed in many cities, working with over 20 collaborators.
