The pleasure of being a farmer
I have experienced since I was a child until this day
Laboring hard on the land
Covered with dirt and cow manure
When the plants grow well
They provide shade, feelings of love disappear
I see the flowers blossoming and the fruits hanging
I gladly pick them
A good harverst brings fortune
But what happens
When reality does not match our desires
A nice car full of laboures
Full of spirit loading this seeds
The car is full of seeds
Traveling fast in an unknown direction
Broken heared, tears fall at the sight of the hay
The hay left behind by the king of mice
A farmer who works hards today will still succeed.
“Sugih sawah sugih pari” (a wealth of rice-fields means plenty of rice) is an old expression to describe the success and subsequent prosperity of the agrarian community in Indonesia, not only for the master, but also for his neighbours who worked only as labourers but enjoyed prosperity from what was left behind after the main harvest.
However poor the landowner’r neighbours may have been, they were still able to enjoy the leftovers from the harvest which brought them prosperity. But now …. ?
